Chris Greicius was a 7-year-old boy with leukemia who wanted "to catch bad guys." His wish to be a police officer was granted by his mother, some friends and the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Make-A-Wish was founded by the small group of people who made Chris' wish happen. They were amazed by how many strangers were affected by Chris' story, and more importantly, how greatly his wish was able to enrich the human experience for Chris and his community. http://wish.org/about-us/our-story/how-it-started
